An abdominal ultrasound is the preferred screening method for an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA). Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm develops as a result of the weakening of the wall of aorta due to atherosclerosis and inflammation.
The test is routinely recommended in men typically ages 65 or above, who are current or former cigarette smokers, or who may have an aneurysm or family history of an aneurysm.
